Truth behind late night eating and weight gain

Many of us have heard the advice of making our last meal at 6:30pm or don't eat past 7pm. However, when so many people are barely getting home at 6:30pm, it seams as though 7pm is realistically the earliest dinner will be on the table. So why does eating after 7 makes people believe you gain weight? Well it may not be eating at a later time that is going to make you gain weight, but what you are eating that may be your problem. So if eating late is inevitable take these few points into consideration.

1.) Make sure you are not skipping any meals. Many times when you get caught in the office you may skip lunch or even worse grab a coffee filled with sugar and empty calories to get you through the day. Skipping meals will only lead you to binge eating at your next meal. So if your next meal is dinner you will go to bed filling full, consider having a healthier full size lunch to avoid feeling starved when you get home.

2.) Portion control is key. Try not to use the largest plate in your cabinet when eating later in the evening. This will help you control over eating. Many times you may not be hungry anymore but because you see food on your plate you continue to eat. So help yourself out and just serve yourself less.

3.) Nibble on healthy snacks throughout the day to avoid feeling hungry throughout the day. Allow yourself a snack like fruit or almonds between meals.

4.) Keep it light. The last thing you want to do is go to bed feeling full and bloated. Try trading the heavy pasta for a fresh grilled chicken salad, but easy on the dressing.

Making healthier choices is important if eating late is not an option, so try to avoid crawling into bed felling full as you are not active enough at that time to burn as many calories as you do throughout the day. Always remember eat until you are satisfied you can always box up your leftovers.
